ABC's Good Morning Washington

Appearance on ABC's Good Morning Washington
I was invited to appear on ABC's Good Morning Washington to discuss my research, mention my recently published book, the National Endowment for the Humanities grant, and the Nankama African Dance Conference. I choreographed the dance Mandiani (pronounced mahn-jahn-nee), made the costumes, and brought two Howard University students to provide a preview of the types of dances that participants will learn at the conference. Mandiani is a dance traditionally performed by pre-pubescent girls. Today, it is also performed by men, women and girls of all ages at celebrations and social gatherings. Previously confined to the specific regions in West Africa where the Mandinka sojourned, Mandiani is now practiced in many parts of Africa and the African Diaspora.
