RITES
RITES is an African ballet. An African ballet is a series of African dances woven together to tell a story. The dances are not necessarily from the same ethnic group or region in Africa. This African dance format was created by Keita Fodeba over 60 years ago when he created his renowned dance company, Les Ballets Africain.
The ballet RITES depicts the different stages of life that we must move through. We are sometimes afraid to move forward and need a nudge. At times we think we are alone, but we should remember we are interconnected with one another and it is through those connections and relationships that we progress.
The ballet RITES is compilation of dances and songs from three different countries - The Gambia, Guinea, and Kenya - in Africa.
